RAILWAYMEN'S SICK PAY
QUESTION TO BE CONSIDERED. Another question regarding the payment of raihvaym'en during the time that they have been off duty since tfeo outbreak of the epidemic was asked in tho House of Representatives by Mr. R. A. Wright yesterday.' Mr. Wright asked the. Minister of Railways whether he would give early consideration to the requests which, lie understood, had been •made to Ijim by the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. A similar point whs made by Mr. M'Combs. lie drew the attention of' the 'Minister to the fa'ct that the members' of the Police .Forco and oi the Post Office staff were to get increnscs, and osked' why similar consideration could not be given to tho claims of'the locomotive men. The Minister said Iha I it was true that representations had been made by the A.R.R.S., and he had promised lo* give them his best attention. >, He was pre-, pared to give attention to'(he claims of the locomotive men along with those of the A.S.R.S., and also those of the Railway Officers' Institute. It would be impossible and it would bo wrong to. consider the claims of one. section'of the service without at the same time considering the claims of the other sections. Mr. M'Combs: The Public Service is a unity, and (ho Post Office employees are getting this. Mr. Merries declared that tho Post and Telegraph Department was different'from the rest of' the Public Service, and he claimed that the case of the Post Office, men was different from that of the 'loco-' men. There wore three, unions in the railway service, and it would be grossly wrong to consider, one of them and not the olhors.
