THE CHILL OF WINTER

Tho aspect of the sky yesterday reminded people of tho chill of winter. A cold raw southerly blew with varying strength throughout the day, and the clouds had that peculiarly suggestive leaden grey hue which in winter would have heralded snow or hail. And it is barely two weeks from the longest day! Present indications are for strong and squally south to southeast winds, cold, changeable and showery weather generally, heavy rain probable about Cook Strait, and snow on tho higher levels in tho northern part of tho South Island.
