HELP FOR THE RED CROSS
A DONATION FROM CUBA
His Excellency the Governor-General has-communicated to the Prime Minister the following telegram which lias tan received from Senator Cosmo do la Torriente, President of the Cuban National Commission of Propaganda in connection with the war, dated November 22.— , The Cuban National Commission of Propaganda in connection with the W«r and the Assistance of its Victims, which was appointed by law on May 15, !91R, has agreed, with tho approval of the Honourable tho President of tho Republic, to send you by mail the sum of ten thousand pesos, which 1 am remitting by draft on Dekleinwert, Sons and Company, of London, in order that (ho Red Cross of New Zealand rany, in tho name of the Republic of Oiiba, dedicate the amount to help the soldiers of your country who are sufferers by tho' great war which the Allies have so victoriously ended, and towards which New Zealand has largely contributed. ITis Excellency has acknowledged the. donation in the following terms:— T desire In associate mysalf with tho Government and people of New Zealand in expressing their high appreciation of tho very generous gift mentioned in your telegram of November 22, and at tho sumo lime, as president of (he Dominion .Red Cross organisation, to ronvcy on its behalf a further expression of grateful thanks. (Signed) LIVERPOOL. It, may be mentioned that the peso is almut orpin 1 in value to the American dollar. The amount so generously remitted by the Commission will therefore bo about ..£2(153 lis.
