THE ARMISTICE TERMS
MR, MASSEY ON -REPARATION AND '■! PUNISHMENT. | The Prime Minister (the Right Hon. ! W. F. Massey), in an interview recently I with the representative of the London j "Times," made the following statement: ■'! "I trust that the terms of the ariiiis- j tice lyitli Germany will be strictly enWe cn.imot afford to take any risks with an enemy so unscrupulous as ! Germany lias proved herself during the . last four years.. Germaus should be de- j voutly thankful that the Allies have not | carried the war into Germany as the Germans carried the war into Prance and j Belgium, and as tlve Huns would have :! carried it into British countries if. they ' ; had got the opportunity. "As for indemnities, I do not . know of ! what Germany is financially capable, but ■ so long as Germany is able to pay for j the injuries she has inflicted, .then Ger- i many should bo made to pay. Anything j less will not be just to those who have ; suffered injury or to those whom they j have left behind. There must ibe ade- : quate reparation as far as it is possible , to obtain it. "Regarding the Kaiser and those im- . • mediately associated with liim, apart al- : together from what is considered legiti- ; mate in war. they are guilty of crimes ! without number, not the least of which ! is their inhuman treatment of .British ■ prisoners, and should be compelled to ; suffer the consequences of their actions. , Common justice demands that the crimes ! and iniquities for which they have been responsible should not bo allowed to go I unpunished." • i
