THE GERMAN COLONIES
4 RESOLUTION BY THE WELLINGTON HARBOUR BOARD. "It appears to bo opportune," said Mr. C. E. Darnell (chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board), at the board's meeting last evening, "for us to formally accord our support to our statesmen in the attitude taken by'them on the question of the future of what were German colonies in the l'aciiic. England might as well let Germany retain in full power Belgium uid all it stands for as to allow Germany to regain Samoa. I therefore now move that the bbard's resolution of February lust be reaffirmed: That the Wellington Harbour Board, realising fully tile immense importance of the future occupation and administration of the Pacific colonies formerly held Ik Germany, desires to urge, most strongly • upon the Dominion representatives' of tho Imperial Conference in London that 1m settlement will be acceptable to the loyal population of New Zealand which leaves possible the reoccuimtion by Germany of the beforementioned colonies.
In seconding' t.lie motion, MY. ]).. A. Wright, M.P., said that they could till see how very awkward it was for the couutry to lose its leaders at the present timo; but he thought it, was necessary to have a stroni? representation at Home Which thoroughly know and understood the position, and" could clearly show, the danger of Germany's retention of Samoa.' The motion of reaffirmation was unanimously carried. ' ,
