FIRE AT A HOSPITAL
EXTINGUISHED BY TIIE NURSES. 15y Telegraph—Press Association. Hokitika\ November 22. An incipient fire was discovered in the ainiison Ward of tho Westland Hospital last night at 7 o'clock. A heavy gale was blowing at tho time, and the institution was crowded with patients, mostly epidemic cases. Some members of the female staff, with the assistance of hvo visitors, got out a lino of hose ninl succeeded in suppressing the outbreak, which was confined to the roof. The felting under the iron took fire, presumably from a spark from an .adjacent chimney. The fire brigade was called, but its services were not required. The damage is not serious, and it was not necessary to disturb the patients. Considerable alarm prevailed in the town until it was known that the danger was'past.
