TRENTHAM CAMP
ITS FUTURE USE,
Trenlham Camp, which is being emptied as quickly as circumstances will allow, is to be used during the next year or two as a hospital for returned men, as well as a musketry school and Territorial training ground. It is not intended that serious'medical or surgical cases ehall bo sent to Trenlham, but accommodation will bo provided for from MO lo 1000 men and for tho necessary medical and nursing staff, in order that milder cases may be handled there. .Referring to this matter yesterday the Minister of Defence {Sir James Allen) said that the hospital provision to bo made, at Trentham irns for emergency use. The existing buildings would bo available. lie hoped that there would bo no occasion to make any extended use of Trentham in this way, but nobody i could tell in advance what the, requirements of Hie demobilisation period would, he, and Iho Defence Department wished to be 'prepared for all eventualities. If tho returning troops included any big bodies of men in need of medical atten. tion, the milder cases would 1)e sent to Trcnthnni.
'Plie fate of Feathcrston Camp in still undecided, but there will be nn undue h,i«te in demolishing this camp. The future requirements of the Territorial Forces of New Zealand have still to lie considered, and one , of Hie possibilities of tho future is that the training will ho more concentrated than it has teen in tho past.
