"REPENT YE—THE LORD IS AT HAND"

Sir,—Kindly permit me a little space wherein to back up the letter signed "Believe" in to-days DoMisrox. Four years of the most drastic . war aver known has not been enough to produce a whole-hearted repentance in the majority of Christians. We are still chiefly pursuing our own interests, with perhaps a little philanthrop'hy thrown in, and trusting either'to luck or to the mercy of the God wo calmly ignore in the meanwhile, to come out all right in the final count. How is it that we dare to accept all the blessings nf Christianity which suit us, and at the same time'turn our backs upon the Giver, who bought us with His own life? It is a mean and unfair thing, to say the least of it, and most of us would treat a fellow-man better than that. God is . marvellously patient, but He won't stand insult, and utter, indifference to His claims for ever. If tins pestilence does not open our eyes and cause us to acknowledge His ownership with our whole hearts most certainly worse .judgments will follow, and "it .is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." Better than all the medical means put together—good as they stop this deadly epidemic would be tho agreed and combined intercession of those who do recognise Christ as their Master and allpowerful Deliverer. Let them plead unitedly that their own hearts may be searched and purified, and that others may turn to Him, apart from Whom (here is no life. Then wo need "not he afraid for the nestilence that walkoth in darkness, nor for the destruction that wastetli at noonday."—l am, etc., "REPENTANCE; November 19, 191 S.
