HISTORY OF THE WAR
NEW ZEALAND'S OFFICIAL EECORD
The official history of New Zealand's part in the Great War is to be presented in three volumes, the first dealing with the Gallipoli campaign, the second with 'the Egyptian-Palestine campaign, and the third with the Western campaign. The Miuister of Defence stated yesferdav, in answer to a question on the subject, that the authors of tho three volumes had still to be selected and approved by Cabinet. It obviously was desirable that they should be men who had taken part in tho campaigns they would be called upon to describe. ■ The initial chapters of the Gallipoli volume have been prepared by an officer who won distinction on Gallipoli. These chapters have leen submitted to certain persons by the Minister,, and if Sir James Allen's .own impression of their worth is confirmed,. this officer probably will be invited to complete the volume. It is possible that' an editor will bo appointed to deal finally with the three volumes. The Minister has cabled to General Godley and General Chaytor, asking them if they can suggest the names of men qualified to write the other two volumes. In tho' meantime the collection and classification of official and unofficial records is proceeding. v
