THE JAPANESE FLAG
Sir,—While loath to make any jarring remark with regard to the loyal celebrations of to-day, may J he allowed \o say that, while the flags of our other Allies were much in evidence, that of our Ally, Japan, was conspicuous by its absence. On Parliament House n Japanese mercantile (las; was /lying,'_ while u Japanese naval flag wae in evidence in front of one of the business ofh'ces. These were the only Japanese (lags I could see in the city. On anil in front of Government Buildings were flying the flags of all our Allies (even the flag of Russia being in 'evidence), but the Japanese flag was not to be seen! In view of the excellent service our Ally, Japan, has performed during the war, not only in the policing of the Pacific, but also in the Mediterranean, it might, I think, have been expected that New Zealand, with its large interests in the Pacific, would ~ have shown most appreciation of the services of the Ally who has done so_ much to conserve and" preserve those interests. —I 'am, etc., •ASIATICUS. November 12. ' •
