The question of allowing passengers to board the s.s. A petition signed by ali the passengers has been sent to the Prime Minister, the general manager of the Union Company, tho Port .Medical Officer, and tile American Consul. The petition reads as follows: "We, the passengers of the t.s.s. Niagara, voyage 33, outward bound, desire to bring beforo.the management our unanimous opinion that, in view of tho serious epvlcmic prevailing in Auckland, and in view of tlie fact tljat the port authorities have seen fit to prevent through passenger? from landing in the. infected area, it would bo nothing short of criminal to take on passengers from an infected area and carry them on this ship to otliev ports. The experiences of the List voyage will have fully established the tact that serious danger does arise through lack of sufficient mid efficient medical attention, and in view of this we are convinced that, should an epidemi" arise 011 board this steamer after having come in contact with an infected port, better and more medical attention should be given than that already supplied. Moreover, in point of fact we view with great, seriousness and alarm the action of the company in rliowing the vessel to touch this infected port and thus endanger the _ lives of passengers ■ and crew. Anxiously awaiting your immediate reply.—(Signed) J Waring, Chairman of Committee."
