Talbot (Temuka) asked the Prime Ministei; if ar-. raiigemoiUs had been made {or the payment' by the Imperial authorities' of an advance on the butter and'cheese that \vas in store in the Dominion. Many ot tho dairy companies, he pointed out, we're absolutely depending on that advance. ' '. , Mr. Ma'ssey replied" that this year s_ butter was not disposed of. Recently the" representatives, of the dairy, industry waited upon'him. in reference .to the matter, which was discussed,nt length. At that time proposals were submitted offering a certain price for ' cheese, as well as a price-for-butter. The price for cheese had been accepted, one or.two minor amendments being made but there was no difficulty on the point, the price for butter was not accepted, and a, cablegram was sent'by him to the Imperial Government informing them of the price the producers -were prepared to take. No answer had yet 'been received? although he had'Ueen expecting one our-' ing the past week.or ten days. He had cabled'to the High Commissioner urging that a reply be expedited The offer for cheese ha'd been a.ccepted, and he dm not think there would be any trouble. The practice was that no' advances were made until sale's had first been.effected.
