The financial statement I showed that the.l receipts amounted io i'.1251 as. 7d., as compared with JiVM 15s. Ski. in the corresponding period of last year. The ■expenditure amounted to £952 17s. 2d., as against Mli 10s. There ivas a debit balance; hist year of -£379 Is. I'd.,- and this year them is a cmiit balance of Mi 3 bs. Bd. A letter was , received' from the City Council intimating that (he council proposed to give the board towards the erection of the new Technical School, the amount to be payable in four instalments, and the land and buildings in' Mercer Street to be transferred to the council on payment of.the last instalment.. The industrial Association also wrote on the subject, urging' that the City Council should -be urged to pay ■£22,000 lor the property.Mr. Ballinger. contended that the property was well , worth .£22,000, and \e thought that when-he went as a membk , of a, deputation from the Industrial Association to ,the I'inance Committee of the' City Council he had made out a strong case in'favour .of the larger sum. He stressed the value of the land and buildings in ; Mercer Street , Mr. Hildreth said that the original intention was to give .£IO,OOO, but after discussion this was increased ,to .-015,000, ulIhough some councillors thought that the amount should 'be larger. Mr. L. M'Kenuzie stated that at the meeting of the council'when the matter , was made public the chmriian of the . Technical Education *Board ..*lr. George Prpsl) expressed his satisfaction with the suin offered- by the council. - Mr. C. M. Luke said .he did not like looking a'''gifVliorse.in the.month. They were in effect asking 'the , council to take back the'iiropei'ty,-and lie (nought that the amflti.nt offered 'was not unreasonable. "Mr. JMUinger formally moved that the City Council be asked to reconsiclnr the matter with a- view of contributing X22;000.\ " -■■...-■ -After a desultory discussion it was decided to defer consideration cf the eub•ject nntil ,the next -monthly . meeting..; ,
