NEW PRESBYTERIAN GIRLS' COLLEGE
Preparations are now well in hand for the dpoiiing of tho new Presbyterian Girls' College. As previously stated., the boys of Scots College now occupying the premises iii Hobson Street will, vaeato these at the end of the present term. The 1 fine structures now in course of erection at Miraniar are sufficiently advanced to make it sure that the work of the first term of the new , year will be begun there. Tho Hbbson Street house will, therefore, be- free for occupancy by tho girls' school, and already a number of pupils have been enrolled. The name of the college has not yet been decided on, but will probably be either ' "Strathclyde" o'r "Edina;" Tho former is Ml known in Scottish history, and the latter is the old Celtic name of Edinburgh. Miss JobSoh, M.A;, who has been appointed principal, is expected in Wellington towards the end of this week, and the name of the college and other preliminary matters will bo settled by thß board, in conference with: her.
Miss Jobsbn is at present principal of the Girls' High Scliool, Invercargill. She is by birth a Victorian, but has served for a good many years in New Zealand. She received her education, at tho Presbyterian Ladies' College, Melbourne, and tha. Melbourne University, of which she was a distinguished alumnus, graduating with first-cla63 honours. Miss JoUson has earned a high reputation as a successful teacher, and her well-known influence in shaping tho .character of her pupils to all worthy ends, weighed greatly with the board in appointing her to the' principalship 6f the new- institution.
T,he annual bazaar in aid of St..Paul's Pro-Cathedral funds will be opened this afternoon by Her Eicelloncy tho. Countess of Liverpool at St. Andrew's Schoolroom, Wellington Terrace, at 3 o'clock. There will bo stalls for produce, cake 3, sweets, needlework, etc, aleo a jumble stall, gifts.for which will be very b> ceptabfe. The salo will continue in the evohing, and "during Thursday afternoon' and evening again, when mod music will bo provided, with somo dainty dancing oh Thursday evening by pupils, of Miss Beere. , •
It has bee'j fouiid that there are some cases iu- Woflington of families wlio aro struggling along in von- straitened, circumstances, and tho LadieS' Christian Associahdn, who have eomo into contact with these, families, would bo very glad to receive contributions of second-hand clothing (men's, women's, and children's) for their relief. Contribution's may bo left at St. John's Schoolroom any day this week.
