MEN'S DEMANDS REFERRED TO DISPUTES COMMITTEE. / ■

'At t'ae resumed conference in regard to tho tramwaymen's dispute, representatives of the Hill Companies said they could not support tho offer from the City Corporation of a 22 por cent, -increase in wages, since the companies had no power to increase fares. Iho workers.replied that they would be pleased to outer into an agreement with the City Council, but felt that to do so would mean sacrificing the Hill Companies' employees. A deadlock.thus arose, and the nlutter stands referred to the Disputes Committee, to bo convened by Mr Browott, local head of tho Labour Department, who took Mr. Haggcr's place owing to tho illness of the latter. Both parties intimated that they would be pleased to have Mr. Bartholomew, S.M., as chairman of tho Disputes Committee, if it could be arranged. •
