Hall-Thompson, Naval Adviser to the Now Zealand Government, states that on the morning of October 31, in heavy woatlier, ft floating mine was observed by the Anchor Lino steamer Waimea, when proceeding from Wanganui to Greynjonth. The mine was then oft' Capo Farewell. After considerable tr.ouble-owing to the conditipn of the weather—the master and crew of the Waimea succeeded in sinking the mine, and so removing a sourco of danger to shipping. . '
