Frnzer, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court on Saturday and dealt with the police cases, ' ]?or insobriety, two first offenders were ench fined Ss., in default twenty-four houre'.- imprisonment, and a third had his bail of 10s. forfeited. Tame 9 Daniel Wilson, -for committing a breach of his prohibition order, was fined 10s., with tho alternative of forty-eight hows' imprisdninent, and for being found drunk he was convicted and discharged.,
Ralph Askin Salisbury and Robert Campbell engaged in a pugilistic encounter «in Victoria Street. The fight was brought about through an argument over the war. Both men wore convicted and •fined 10s. each, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment;, George Maxwell M'Kay pleaded guilty to the theft of a clock, valued at Bs. Cd., the property of Nellie Trough.. Chief Detective Bodilam stated that the clock was stolen from the cook's room-at tho Albion Hotel. M'Kay. he said, had a very bad Tceord and was at the time wanted by the military police as a deserter, but, he added, they do not want him back now. He sold the clock for 3s. • Tie had nkeady been declared a.n habitual criminal. Hb was sentenced to three months' imprisonment,
