LADIES' BILLIARDS
At Alcock's rooms last night the ladies tourney progressed, until now only a section tie and then the finals remain to be played. Five games were contested, last night—Jliss Leslie defeated Mrs. Lockwood; Mrs. Kilmirister defeated Mrs; Kobertson; Miss Porter defented Miss Stale; Mrs. Watkins defeated Miss Leslie 'ana Mrs. Player. The results of. the section play are-Mrs. Kilminster; wins A. Section, and Miss Leslie and Mrs. Wntkins tie for B Section. These latter will play off' on Monday night at 7.30, after which the winner will contest the final with Mrs. Kilminster.
Miss Nesta Carwell-Cooke is giving a dance recital oh the occasion of the breaking-up of hor classes, on Saturday, 9, at 3 p.m., in the Town Hall. No pains are being spared to make tho performance a success'from every point of view. An energetic committeo is making arrangements for the comfort of patrons and providing afternoon tpa, for which no extra charge is being made. The proceeds are to bo devotod to the Navy League's Sailors' Coint'orts 1-und. Mr. Cook, of the D.I.C. staff, is aoing the decorating, for which the materials ,are being lent by the D.I.C. Tickets may be had from mernocrs of iho Navy League • Ladies' Auxiliary or from Begg's. . .
There is only one more month in which tickets for the art union held in connection with the Countess of Liverpool Trench Comforts Fund may be obtained, and .intending purchasers should lose no time in securing them. The daintiest of underwear, some boautiful old lace, beautifully, embroidered traycloths and afternoon cloths, a handsome silver toilet set, etc., are only some of the articles included in the raffle. Tickets may be obtained from the'hon. secretary of. the fund at the Town. Hall.
Speaking at the animal meeting of tho Girls' Friendly Socioty in Auckland. .Bishop Averill said that n groat need in Auckland was more hostols for girls. ■Ho thought of ,boys and girls wlio came in from the country, and began on small wages. If tho Church could only provide suitable hostels for theso they would be doing a great work for • tho young people. Later, when speaking of tho work of the society, Bishop Averill expressed the opinion that if tho G.F.S. took up some educational glasses like Hie Workers' Educational Association, it would bo a good thing, for many of tho gjrls would welcome something wider in the educational line, as education was now in tho air for all.
