I'or jriiobfiety an old age pensioner named Annie Druny against whom thero was one previous conviction, was lemontly dealt with, being convicted and discharged. Eljzabeth Harris, on n similar charge, was treated ns a first offender, as was also Francis J. Donnelly, and each was fined 55., in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Edward lioylo, -a:- soldier, against whom there was one pre : vious,conviction, was convicted and ordered to be handed over to the military authorities. Two.first offenders who failed to appear wore each fined 10s., and another who had been in custody since Saturday was convicted and discharged."
A lad named Francis Charles Gomez, for whom Mr. 11. F, OTeary appeared, pleaded guilty to the theft oi a wristlot gold watch valued at £&, tho property of May Jane I'ahy. Mr. O'Leary maue a plea for probation, but tho Magistrate said tho lad was on probation under the Education Department, and he would defer passing sentence until tho wishes of the Department were ascertained. Gomez was remanded to November A, and oau was allowed in .£-5 a "d one surety of jj'>s . George Hills pleaded guilty to being drunk, and also to the theft of a bottle of whisky, value 10s. Gd., the property of the Now 'Zealand Shipping Company. Hill admitted that he had the bottle of whisky in his,- pocket, but he was too drunk to Know how. }Ie came by it. He did not remember taking it, and did not know anything about it. "It was a little misfortune," observed the accused. He was sentenced to seven days' imprisonmnent for the theft, and convicted and discharged for drunkenness. Albert Kennedy Barrett was charged with the theft of' a gilt chain, value 10s., a gold ring valuo JSS, and a silver watch, value XI, tho propcrtv of'Frederica'Stohr. and a. razor value 10s., the property nf Ault Stohr.
