OBITUARY

_9 ME. W. C. BADDEN FOUND DEAD IN BED. Very sincere and widespread regret will be expressed at the news af the entirely unexpected death, of Mr. William Charlea Badden, indent agent and importer, of Panama. Street, who was found dead in his bed at 6.30 • a.m. yesterday. Mr. Badden, who was a single man, had for many years been associated with Presbyterian Clrarcli work, and though suffering slightly-from the. effects of influenza which he had contracted a week before, he attended a rating at St. John's Church on Wednredny night at .which the union of the Clnirnhes was disenssed. He' returned to his home in CVirolino Slreet apparently in normal health, and when there was no answer to the call, to rise yesterday morning one of his-sisters' entered the bedroom to find her brother quito dead. A medical man was called, but could only pronounce life extinct. Heart failure had supervened on influenza. Mr. Badden, who -was very quiet and unostentatious in manner, was a great worker in the cause of Christianity. When a young mau and a member of St. John's congregation he felt tho call so strongly that he volunteered for missionary work in India, and worked in that field of Christian endeavour for fivo or eix years, when his health demanded a change, and he returned to New Zealand. Mr. Badden, who was 48 years of aire, gained business experience in Wellington as a young man with the firm of W. M. Baniiatyne. and Co., and on his return to New- Zealand went into' business as an importer of goods, including eome special lines from India. Ho had always been actively associated with the work of the Y.M.C.A. in Wellington, and was up till the time of his,death chairman of the local Religions Wort Committee.' He was'musically inclined, and as a pianist and organist his services were always in demand in connection with his Y.M.C.A. and other activities. He was residing with his mother (Mrs. Dunning) and three sisters in Caroline Street at the time of his death.
