WINTER WEATHER
According to the official report ot the Meteorological Department a disturbance centred in the north is responsible for the present cold and stormy conditions. In Wellington yesterday a. bitter southerly wind, with frequent heavy mm squalls, prevailed throughout the day. Present indications nro for liigh south to south-easterly winds northward o? Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, and increasing oasterly to northerly winds elsewhere, with a probable continuance of the present unsettled weather, rain generally, and heavy rain and floods in the Kast' Coast districts.
