ALARMING- REPORTS. Cape Town, October 22. A message from Pretoria states that the epidemic there is assuming alarming proportions. There ie also great distress in the country districts. The over-use of quinine anil aspirin is. :taking a toll of the Dutch population. Tho military authorities are rendering energetic assistance to the civil population. At Koberls's Heights cantonments there are 1800 cases, but the value of discipline and organisation is demonstrated by the low death-rate, as compared with that of the civilians. A Johannesburg message states that during the last twelve days there have been a thousand deaths, including 400 whites. At Bloemfontein the death roll is over a thousand, including a . imdred whites. The epidemic is making- strides in the native territories, where the mortality is said-to be serious.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
