WAR SCHOLARSHIPS
. * ART UNION ON LAEGE SCALE.'' The problem of educating the children of soldiers and sailors who have been killed or disabled on war service is. one of the most serious of after-war questions. A new schemo was recently originated by Dr. Eiddell, of Ilawkes Bay, and has aroused tho interest-ot a number of prominent business men. Recently a committee was formed to consider the best means of raising funds for the foundation of scholarships for the children of soldiers and sailors. Alter considering many methods of procuring the necessary funds, it was decided o adopt the plan of a great art union to operate all over "New Zealand. The art union was officially designated the 1 ren-t-ham Dominion Scholarships Art Union Fund, and the trustees appointed werc:-Major-General Sir Alfred Eobm, K.C.M.G., CB., Colonel 11. H. Potter. C M.G., N.Z.S.C, and Dr. J. W. Anderson, Director of Education. ,A, great display of prizes is already on view at the Bristol, Lambton Quay. As the Bristol windows could not accommodate all the prizes they have oversowed into two windows of-Messrs. George and Kerslev, Ltd., adjoining, so that (lie entire showing makes probably the biggest prize exhibition ever seen in AVollington. On Friday the proceedings will take the form of street sales, and the Irenthain Band will play in the streets throughout the day. An announcement appears in our advertising columns m this issue.
