SHAKIjAND AND COMPACT, LTD. Tho twentieth annual report of Messrs. Sharland and Co. states that for the year ended August 31 there wae a considerable increase in the business of the company, and consequent larger profits. After making provision for all bad and doubtful debts, full depreciation of premises and plant, and payment of interim dividend, thore roraains a balance of £15.082 17s. 6d.. including £4114 os. 4d. brought forward from last year's Account. The reserve fund wae increased on March 31 by £16C0 surplus above hook value recyved oft sale of Willeaton Street premises, and the directors have now added £3400 from the foregoing profits, making the fund up to £50X00, leaving £11,682 17s. M. to be dealt with. They recommend appropriation as follow:—In payment of dividend % per cent, for the year. le(s interim dividend of 33 per cent, paid .May 1. JE2812 10a.; in payment of special dividend of 6d. per share from profits earned by reserve fund. £1875; to carry forward to next, year's account, £6955 fs. Bd.: total, £11.682 17s. Bd. A Ruhuoription of £45M was made to the 1918 War Loan, makin? the comtwny's holdinp £95C0. of which £8575 was paid iid at balance, 'date. The directors have acknowledged by suitable remuneration and bonne the excellent work performed by tho secretary, managers., and staff during the year. Allowances to members of tho stpff on military service have been maintained. The retiring director is Mr. W. Watson, who offers himself for re-election.
