BUTTER AND CHEESE
.- THE IMPERIAL PURCHASE. A member of the Thames Farmers' Union stated recently at Morrinsville that Mr. Maesey', while in England, had offered the New Zealand output of dairy produce to the Imperial Government at 10d. per lb. for cheese and 1725. per cwt; , for butter. The Prime Minister stated yesterday that ho had made no offer of the kind during hia visit to England or at any other time. On the contrary, he had refused to consider prices until the shipping position was more clearly defined than it Jiad beou in recent months. -The matter was at preEcnt in the' hands of- the High Commissioner, and he would place the new arrangement before tho representatives of the dairy industry a , - *oon as the negotiations had reaclitu ji sufficiently advanced stage.' That would be iu the near future.
There, is grotinu for believing that the price to be paid for butter will be ill the neighbourhood of 180s. per cwt., without snare of any profit made by the Imperial Government on distribution in' the United Kingdom. This arlangemont would bs in line with the bargain already made for the Austra'ian surplus of butter. WHOLESALE PRODUCE PRICES Messrs.
