BOOT TRADE DISPUTE

A SETTLEMENT REPORTED. It is announced that a settlement lias been reached in. tho dispute between tho New. Zealand Federated Boot Trade Industrial. Association of "Workers and tho New Zealand Boot Manufacturers .Undustrinl Association of Employers. The settlement was reached during fin adjournment of tho proceedings of tho Arbitration Court at Christcluirch, and was subsequently made an award of the Court. Tho "Sun" says that under the terms of tho settlement tho rate of wages for male journeymen has been increased from Is. 3d. per hour, with a bonus of o per cent., totalling £2 ]9s. Id. weekry, to a Hat rate of Is. Gd. per hour, totalling £3 7s. Gd. per week. The wages of female workers have been increased from 30a.. plus a 5 per cent, bonus, totalling 31s. fid. per week, to a Hal; rale of Dos. The wages of hotworkers (females) have been increased from 375. Cd. to 425. Gd. per week. An agreement has nlso been .reached on the union's grievanco of alleged victimisation. The manufacturers have lihvo given an'assurance in tho award that no obstacles will bo placed in tho wtiy of men «btai\iing employment when leaving present employers, and it has further been agreed that n board shall bo set up in eaeh centre, consisting of three representatives of the union and llirco representatives of the employers, to provido adequate labour for manufacturers. Tho award will operates from November 8, 1918, to November 8, 1920.
