WESLEY SUNDAY SCHOOL
In- continuation of the services in connection with the seventy-seventh anniversary of ■ the Taranaki . Street Wesleyan Sunday School, a tea and pubiic'meetiiig and concert wero held in Wesley Half on Wednesday evening, when tho schoolroom was crowded. Special prizes were given for the best decorated tables, the winners being K. Strong andE. Wright in the juniors, and K. Sales and E. Little in the seniors. In the absence of the secretary (Mr. 0. Fiebig), who is in camp, the superintendent read the , report and balance-sheet, which showed the school to be nourishing. During the year i £73 7s. 9d. had been collected for missions, while the total receipts of the school amounted to £205 13s. Cd., and the expenditure to £195 175., leaving a credit balance of £9 16s. 7d. The collections last Sunday amounted to £4§ Bs. Sd., and with donations and tea it is hoped to inoreaso the amount to nearly £100. The total number of scholars on the roll was 394, and 35 teachers, while 83 babies were on the cradle roll.- Six members of the school had lost their lives during tho past years on the fields in France, those naming "gone West" being Messrs. H. Grave (M.M.),- P. Litchfield, H.. Sanson, R. Maunder. R. BWckburne, and B. Hawkins. The election of officers resulted:—Superintendent, Mr. C. H. Barratt; secretary and treasurer, Mjss A. Bolton; assistant-secretary', Miss Cooper; musical conductor, Mr. W. B. Strong; librarian, Mr. AV. A. Grenfell; assistant, Mr. Fairb,airn; pianists, Miss E. Barratt; organist, Mr. B. Gardiner; auditor, Mr. J. Kellow; mission secretary, Mr. W. B. Strong. An interesting programme of musical and elocutionary items was contributed by Misses P. Barratt, M.. Bennie, I). Dellridge, H. Jackson, C. Grono, D. Russell, N. Bolton, M. Freeman, m. Currie, and A. Denton, the accompaniments being plnyed by Mrs. Bennie, Misses A. Denton, Bolton, Pnsche, and I. Russell. The Rev. J. G. Chapman and Mr. W. E. Bedstone delivered short addresses during the evening on the importance of the Sunday School, emphasising that the foundation of the child's character was laid in its tender years.
