THE POLICE FORCE

MOVEMENT FOR. ORGANISATION,

A meeting of the Wellington police was held in the Esperanto Hall, Lambton Quay, last night. There was a large attendance of members of all ranks. The principal Irasiness was to consider the question of whether the, police should form a Police Association or join in with tho Public Service Association. The Minister of Justioehad decided that this question should be I loft to the decision of a vote of the members of tho Police Force. I It.was unanimously decided by the mooting that the Wellington police, and also those in other parts of New Zealand, should be urged to vote m favour of joining tho Public Service Association. It was also decided unanimously that the Minister of Justice should be requested to make it compulsory by regulation for all members of the' Police Forco to become members of the' Public Service Association. Reports were received from Christ" church, Dunedin, aiid Wanganui'to the effect that the ■police in those districts had at similar meetings decided iii favour of joining the Public Service Association. ■ . Tho ballot that has been authorised by tho Minister of Justice will bo completed on October 31. The ballot papers have to be sent, in on or before that date, and they are to be counted by Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., who will inform the Minister of the result.
