Judging by the opinions of the members of -the 'Victorian Stato Ministry there is little chance of the Cabinet following the, lead of the Now South Wales Ministry in introducing a Women's Legal Status Bill (states the Molbotirno "Argus"). A measure under this title, giving women the right to election as members of the State Parlaiment and of municipal councils'and appointment as justices of the peace, has been submittod to the New South Wales Legislature. The Premier (Mr. Lawsou) said that about 1914 ho had secured an amendment of the Local Government Aot which romoved tho disqualification of women for election to municipal councils. Except for the Melbourne and Oeelong City Councils, which were constituted under a'different Act, there was therefore no legal impediment to tho eleotion of. women to municipal councils in Victoria, lie would make no, comment as to the rights of women to the other privileges. That he was opposed to the invasion of women into the various public activities was tho comment of the. Stato Treasurer (Mr. M'Pherson). The Solicitor-General (Mr. Kobinson) said that women already could be admitted to practice as barristers and solicitors in Victoria, but ho would, think a very long time before he would consent to giving thorn the other privileges. Tho question of appointing women justices had already liecn considered but ho was doubtful of the wisdom of such a proposal. Women might be valuable in municipal .life, especially in connection with health laws and infant lifo protection, but to malto them justices of the pence mid give them power to dispense justice was a very different matter. ,

Accounts were passed for payment and correspondence" dealt with, including a letter from Lady Stout, formerly president of the league, in which she thanked that body for the kind ai>prcciation of her services which had been oxpressed, and hoped that the lcaguo would make investigations concerning conditions in ••oimootion with the influenza outbreak, which had led to such a deplorablo'loss of life among our soldiers on board tho troopships recently. In connection with this matter' Mrs. Massey said they -were not there to stir up trouble, and she thought that all possible care had boen taken and evrythins? done to control the epidemic. She did not think they should blame tho authorities without hearing the other side of tho oase.
Mrs. Mason moved that there was no occasion for the league to do anything in the mutter, as the authorities had clone all in their power. This resolution was seconded and carreid by members.
It was proposed and carried that the .constitution of tho society bo rescinded, and I hat a simpler - one be drawn up in its place The meeting also considered that it was not pieces-' sary for the socioty to'register itself.
