A VICTORY EFFORT
FOR DEPENDANTS'OP'MEN OP THE' MERCANTILE MARINE.
The members of the Wellington Commercial Travellers' Association are again to the foro. 'Their mission,thi3 timo is to raise a substantial sum of money for the defendants of the men of the mercantile mariue—the masters, mates, engineers, and men who give up thoir lives, are wounded, ov otherwise handicapped by gallant work at sea— the work that keeps the Empire alive, fiittle has been done in this direction m New Zealand up till:now, but thn travellers . are determined that Wellington shall do its part along with iliem in contributing towards- Miese people. The appeal is to take the form of. a gigantic surpri6o- packet scheme, to be held on December 12, J3, and 14, permission ib hold which has alreadv been obtained from the Minister, of. Internal Affairs. ','The Victory, Effort,"-as it is being called, has already brought in approximately £1200 in donations, and donations are coming in. from all parts of the Dominion: ■-$ is' the aim of the committee to dispose of SoQjOOO tickets at Is. in three days., There will bo many valuable prizes,_ dud no one will receive loss than sixpenny worth for his Is. The goods will be stored by, the Harbour Board, , and M- shed wuT be converted into an,immense store for the redemption of the tickets as they are sold. Sub-committees have- been' appointed to exploit every lino of business for the •'Victory Effort."
