ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
DEATH FROM BURNS. The circumstances surrounding the death of Mrs. Jane Heavey. who died at the on Wednesday as the result of receiving severe burns at a fire at hor house, 139 Taranaki Street, the previous evening, were investigated by the coroner, Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., yesterday. William Heavey, husband of the deceased, said tho latter was about fifty-, three years of age. When the fire was discovered deceased went downstairs, and witness followed her a minute or two afterwards. Being unaware that he had gone down, deceased went up again to rouse him, as well as some hoarders. Tire next thing witness saw was hig son carrying the deceased downstairs. Dr. Holmes was summoned, and ordered her removal to the hospital. '
Dr. Fitzgerald, house surgeon at the Wellington Hospital, said that the deceased was very badly burned, and when admitted to the institution was in a state of collapse, with a very weak pulse. The cause of death was shock, due to the large area df the burns. Michael Heavey, a.son of the deceased, corroborated his father's evidence. The coroner returned a verdict' in accordance with the medical testimony. SUDDEN DEATH. The sudden dqjjh occurred at 9.30 a.m. yesterday of Mrs. Mary Bradley, at her residence, 106 Northland Road. The deceased was 81 years of ago. About midnight on Thursday she complained of pains in the reg'ion of the heart. During the succeeding hours she became worse, and Dr. Pattio was sent for, hut death supervened before, he arrived. An inquest will he held at half-past nine to-day. SHIP'S FIREMAN DROWNED. By Telegraph.—Pr'oßs Association. Auckland, October 11. A 'ship's fireman named 'William Farran, a native of London, was drowned this evening through falling off the gangway of a vessel. Another man also fell into the water, but was rescued. MOTOR-CYCLE COLLIDES WITH EXPRESS. By Tclegrapli.-Press Association., Hawera, October 11. Alex. Main, a married man, aged 34, Whilst riding a motor-cycle into town, collided with the mail train this morning. His right arm, collarbone, and two ribs were broken. Main was taken to the hospital, and his condition : is serious. DIED SUDDENLY. By Tele?rap'h.-Preßs.Association. Dunedin, October 11. Frederick Borley, aged 54, died suddenly at Green Island. Ho was staying with his son while on a visit from Christchurch. It is said that the deceased underwent an operation in Christchurch two months ago.
