At the soldiers' social in Featherston on Wednesday night, a cordial welcome home was accorded Private "Dick" Crawford, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Crawford, who have three other sons serving the Empire. He left with an early reinforcement at the outset of the war. The Mayor (Mr. J.'.TV. Card) voiced the ' sentiments of tho citizens, and Mi\ A. C. Holms replied on behalf of the young soldier, "who, like so many other warriors, claimed to he more a man of deeds than words.
The Greytown Borough Council met on .Monday evening. The borough overseer, who has resigned, was allowed fourteen days' leave on full pay. The damage done to Woodside Road by waterworks excavation lias been repaired. This allowed vehicles to drive up to Bassett's Lane en route to Hector track.' It was resolved to write, to the Minister of Justice relative to building a new police barracks. The Minister of Defence is to bo asked his intention's'regarding the old Drill Hall, which has been condemned. The bank overdraft stands at £3846 6s. 4d.
