BAPTIST CONFERENCE

Tlie delegates of the Baptist churches of New Zealand met yesterday in the Vivian Street Church to consider the work of the New Zealand Baptist Missionary Society. The mission field is situated in' East Bengal, in the district of Tippenah. The Rev. J. K. "Archer, missionary secretary, read the annual report, which was received and adopted. The report referred to the disastrous earthquakes recently experienced, which had' done considerable material damage. The political influence of students had to some extent hmdersd the work, but it is confidently expected that this will be overcome. The work of the missionaries has been continued despite the impeding effect of the war. Preaching in, the open air, Bible Class work, the distribution of Christian literature, the teaching of children in day schools, and the' very important zenana work among the women have been faithfully carried on. A fully-equipped hospital and dispensary meets a very real need, and does magnificent service. Miss M. A. Bradfiekl, of Omaha, has been accepted for service in India during the past year. ' Mr. C. Cathie, missionary treasurer;* presented the annual financial report, which showed that £5191 had been raised during the year by the churches for foreign mission work.
