TORPEDOED
Washington, -October 4.
The United States Cc.fst Guard cutter Tampa, engaged oil convoy duty on September 26, in the Uustol Channel, was sunk, it is believed by a torpedo. The explosion mused nor to sink before it was possible to rescue a single man on board. A quantity cf wreckage was discovered later. Ten American officers and one British officer'were en board. Five civilian employees were also drowned.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
ANOTHER SCOUT PATROL BOAT v SUNK. (Rec. October 6, 11 p.m.) New York, October 5. ' A scout patrol .boat off the wast exploded internally and sank. In spite of the efforts of the rescue. vessels, which hastened to the scene, only one boat-load was saved. The total complement was 55.
