BAYONET EXHIBITIONS

PROTEST AGAINST CHILDREN'S ATTENDANCE. By Telegraph.—Frees Association. Christchurch, October 4. '!I move that we go on to the next business and not even receive letters of that sort," said Mr. A. Peverill at a meeting of tho Education Board today, when a lengthy letter was read from the Natioual Peace Council strongly protesting against children in standards 5 and G being permitted to attend the entertainments recently giyon by the Trentham physical training squad bayonet fights. The letter went on to say. that' children were allowed nowadays to see entertainments some of which were positively demoralising, and the bayonet exhibitions, in tho opinion of the council, came under that category. Tlv' council was of the opinion that there was no mwi'e, degrading spectacle than a bod;; or rfi|a demonstrating with fixed bayonets tio act of, killing their, fellow-men. Such an exhibition could only instil into tho children a spirit of murder and hatred, and the council desired to protest very strongly against their being allowed to bo present. The letter provoked laughter, but in order to ehow tho council some sort of courtesy, as Mr. C.H. Opie put it, it was decided, by six votes to five, to receive the letter.
