TRAMWAY TROUBLE
CONFERENCE BEGUN YESTERDAY
CARS RUNNING TO SCHEDULE
It was quite gratifying to close observers to notice the cars speeding along at their old-time pace yesterday and arriving on schedule tinie at tho various section terminals. It was at once concluded that in view, of the conference the men had consented to iun the cars according to schedule. This proved to be correct. Tho General Manager and. the union officials had a meeting yesterday morning, and agreed to meet in conference before tho Coneiliation Commissioner (Mr. W. Newton) during the afternoon. The meeting of the parties took place at 3 p.m. and lasted until 5.15 p.m. Messrs. AY. H. Morton (General Manager), M. Cable (Tramways Manager), and D. M'Gillvray (Traffic Manager) represented the City ■ Corporation, and three union officials the Wellington Tramways TJiiion. yPhere was a good deal of preliminary Uiscussion, and, according to the Commissioner, some little progress was made. He could not ,say anything as to the details of the discussion. "The conference will be resumed to-day—at what time will lie determined by the weather, which affects the work of'he tramway officials, particularly on a Saturday. Mr. Newton finally went as far as to express the opinion that he thought a settlement might be arranged as the result of the conference.
