THE QUESTION OF AMENDMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, October 2. At a mooting of the committee of tho Canterbury ilugby linion last nigiit tho president (Mr. l'\ T. Evans) said that after the Wellington team had visited Christchurcii a Wellington official had said that Canterbury was ripe for professionalism. ]-Io wished to say that this is absolutely incorrect. Though Canterbury had taken an active part in agitating for certain reforms there had never been any suggestion of paying men for playing. After a discussion it was decided tliat tho matter of replying to the allegation bo left to the president. Mr. Evans said he had received a suggestion from Auckland that a special meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union be held to disuuss amendefl rules, and Canterbury was asked to send in a request. He was of the opinion that a special meeting should not be called unless there was a. chance of a full meeting, and. he thought it better to wait until the annual meeting. Amendment suggested by AUCKLAND UNION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, October 3. The Auckland Rugby Union has resolved to ask the New Zealand Rugby Union to call a meeting of delegates as soon as possible, to consider notices of motion from the Auckland Union in connection with alterations and additions to the rules <if the New Zealand Rugby Football Union. These provide for such a modification of the rules as may be deemed desirable in the interests of the game—to delete Rule 32, and make the decision of the Appeal Committee final; an addition to Rule 37, making alf suspensions inoperative pending the decision of any appeal; to delete Rule 47, and substitute, "Should any alteration or modification be agreed to-it shall be forwarded to the English Rugby Union"; and to delete from Rulo 48 the words, "Rugby Football Gnion, England," and insert tho words, "New Zealand Rugby Football Union."
