Evans) said that after the Wellington team had visited Christchurcii a Wellington official had said that Canterbury was ripe for professionalism. ]-Io wished to say that this is absolutely incorrect. Though Canterbury had taken an active part in agitating for certain reforms there had never been any suggestion of paying men for playing. Mr. Evans said he had received a suggestion from Auckland that a special meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union be held to disuuss amendefl rules, and Canterbury was asked to send in a request. The Auckland Rugby Union has resolved to ask the New Zealand Rugby Union to call a meeting of delegates as soon as possible, to consider notices of motion from the Auckland Union in connection with alterations and additions to the rules <if the New Zealand Rugby Football Union. These provide for such a modification of the rules as may be deemed desirable in the interests of the game—to delete Rule 32, and make the decision of the Appeal Committee final; an addition to Rule 37, making alf suspensions inoperative pending the decision of any appeal; to delete Rule 47, and substitute, "Should any alteration or modification be agreed to-it shall be forwarded to the English Rugby Union"; and to delete from Rulo 48 the words, "Rugby Football Gnion, England," and insert tho words, "New Zealand Rugby Football Union."
