TENNIS
BROUGHAM HILL CLUB,
Tlie Brougham Hill Tennis Club opfened their courts on Saturday, commencing the twentieth year of the club's existence'. The secretary, in calling upon the Hon. J. G. -W. Aitken to open the courts, stated that it had been the pleasure of the club to have had Mr. Aitken to officiate for something like twelve years, and those gathered there that day welcomed him once again. In declaring the season open, Mr. Aitken expressed his thanks for having had the honour of being president of the club for such a long period. He congratulated the club on the fact that all. its eligible members had enlisted, and those of otlier divisions had been called up. so that there was not one member left who had not responded to the country's call! ITe was glad that tho ladies kept the men ui> to the mark. After having "served" a ball, Mr. Aitken declared tho season open. An official set was played, Miss Sinclair and Roberts v. Mrs. W. E. and 11. V. Howe, tho latter proving the winners.- Afternoon tea was dispensed to the players and visitors, who numbered 143. Cheers for tho president ami tho "boyr." at tho front were heartily given.
