CHARLEY'S AUNT SOCIAL CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of thfe Charley's Aunt Social Club took place at _ the club's rooms on Wednesday night. There was a large attendance of members, and the president (Mr. M. A. Carr) -was in the chair. The balancesheet showed a credit balance of £86 6s. lOd., the net profit for the year being £54 16s. sd. Tho season commenced with a membership of 185, and the total, is now 285. A "performance given in aid of the Press Babv Fund realised £115.! and a patriotic concert at Island Bay realised £65.
The following officers-bearers were appointed for the ensuing year President, Mr. Albert Russell; vice-presi-dents, Miss Hardinge Maltby, Mrs. N. E. Aitken, Mrs. Baden, Messrs. W. H. Atack, J. F. Carr, M. A. Carr, "W. Eraser, "W. .E. Jackson, M. Manthel, Thomas Pringle, and G. Bentley Russell;. committee, Misses Atack, G. Guise, L. Maplesden, and E. Petherick, Mesdames F. J. Evans. M. Menard, W. Scammell, E. Wilson, Messrs. A. Baudinet, A: E. Ballard,' S. Boock, P. Cording, F. J. E*ans, L. W. Hanlon, R.'A. Oswin, and M. Tracey; lion, secretary, Mr. Norman E. Aitken; lion, treasurer, Mr. E. H. Cavell:'lion, musical d&eotor, Mr. F. Wolfgang;, lion, aqcomfianist, Miss Madoleine Webbe.
During tils evening a vote of thanks was passed for the lion, musical director (Mr. Wolfganq;), the lion, accompanist (Miss Madoleine Webbo), and the.; members of the • orchestra, vho have done so, much to make the socials a success. '
Mr. Albert Russell, ( the newly-elect-ed president, during the evening made a presentation on behalf ,of tlie members of;the club of a wristlet watch each to the lion, secretary (Mr. "Norman E. Aitken) and tlicjion. treasurer (Mr._ E. H. Cavell) as a token of appreciation of the work they have done for the club during the past two years. Mr. Cavell, on behalf of his colleague and himself, thanked the' members for their token of appreciation.
Since the employment of women conductors, the executive of the London General Omnibus Company has interviewed no fewer than 30,000 applicants, and fourteen per cent, have been accepted and passed into the service.
The Commandant at Featherston acknowledges with thanks the receipt of the following gifts:—To Racecourse Hospital, Tauherenikau, by Wairarapa Hospital Committee, per Mrs. Q, Donald, secretary: 1- ease of oranges, 3 pineapples, 1 case of oranges. To hospital by Wairarapa Hospital Committee, per Mrs. Q. Donald, secretary: Y\ eeldy gilt of cakes, 1 case of oranges, 1 case of pineapples, eggs.
