The National Executive of the Se<> ond'Division League has recently had a number of cases brought before it from different parts of New Zealand, wherein the wives of soldiers 011 activo service were shown to be placed in tho unhappy position of having to relinquish the tenancy of their homes on account of their respective landlords either selling over tneir heads or demanding possession of the properties for the use of their families. Magistrates, in making orders in favour of tho landlords, have in many cases expressed their regret that tho law a 6 it stood gavo them no option. The Second Division League has been hi communication for somo time with the authorities, and recently approached the Hon. T. M. Wilford, Minister of Justice, to see whether somo steps could bo taken to protect the wives of soldiers from hardship in this matter. Tho Minister has given prompt consideration to jthe representations made, and yesterday tho following,letter was received from him by the league*.--"With reference to your letters of 19th and 25th ultimo, and my replies thereto, I beg to inform you that I received a memorandum this morning from the Minister of Defence stating that the whole matter has been considered by the Attorney-General, who uroposos to have a clause to meet such inserted in t!ie amending War Legislation this session."
