ELECTION NOTES

One of the questions put to Mr. Hildreth at his election meeting last night related to the case of a woman who was sent to prison at Christchuich for having assisted her son and another man to evade military service. Mr. Hildreth said that he had inquired about this matter and had been informed by tho Minister of Defence that the woman was going to be released within the next few days. He did rot know the details of the case, and could not express an opinion upon it. / Tho Mnsterton branch of the 'Car-, penters and Joiners' Union has (says our special correspondent) passed a resolution protesting against Mr. Mack's attitude in standing as an Independent Labour candidate for Wellington Central against the nominee of organised Labour. A Press Association telegram states that the Otago branch of the A.S.R.S. passed a resolution condemning Mr. Mack's action in contesting Wellington Central as an Independent Labour candidate.

Sir. P. Fraser, the selected Labour candidate for Wellington Central, received the following telegram yesterday: "At tho request of a large number of Auckland and Newmarket A.S.R.S. members, 1 wish to extend to you our sincere support and co-opera-tion, together with the earnest hope that you ,will be overwhelmingly' successful in the contest for the Wellington scat. We 'also wish to dissociate ourselves with _a resolution carried by a small majority at a small meeting of our branch of the A.S.R.S. held last evening which sympathised with Mr. Mack's attitude. Wishing you success.—(Sgd.) J. E. Nelson.." The Labour candidate, Mr. P. Fraser, addressed a meeting of electors at the Mission Hall, Aro Street, last ovening. Mr. A. Parlane presided over a large attendance, and a vote of confidence in the Labour candidate was carried unanimously.

The following resolution, according to our special correspondent, was passed at a meeting of the Executive Committee of- thffl Mn.ntcrr.on group of tho .Protestant Political Association: "Th.it in the interests of war-winning loyalty and the safeguarding of our Protestant rights and liberties wo exhort tho Protestants of Wellington to support and vote for Mr. M. J. Mack, tho Independent Labour candidate, and that

in our opinion tho Labour Party of New Zealand has everything to gain and nothing to lose if Mr. Mack is returned to Parliament."

Air. L. J. P. Garmson, who is a returned soldier, sets out tile main planks of his platform in an advertisement in this issue. Mr. Garnison will address a meeting of electors at the Scottish Society's Hall on Wednesday next at 8 p.m. A meeting of the committee and supporters of the' Labour Party will be hold in the Trades Hall, Vivian Street, this afternoon at 2.30 p.m. Open-air' meetings in support of tho Labour candidate, Mr. P. Eraser, will bo held to-night at Ghuznee Street end Dixon Street, and the speakers will include- Mr.. H. E. Holland, M.P., Mr. A. L. Monteith, Mr. R. Scrapie, and the candidate.

The Labour Party held an open-air meeting at Ghuzneo Street last evening in support of Mr. P. Fraser. The speakers included Mr. J. Read, Mr. M. J. Reunion. Mr. R, M'Keen, Mr. J. M. Campbell, and Mr. E. Kennedy. Mr. Mack (Independent Labour) will speak in St. Peter's Schoolroom on Monday evening. Mr. Atmore will address the electors in St. Peters Schoolroom this evening, and in the Post Office Square on Monday.
