He took-off a. little too suddenly, and the nose of the machine bumped the ground. iThafc occurrence in itself is a very ordinary one, but it so happened that on this occasion the jar which the machino suffered caused the-petrol .pipe.-to burst. The escaping petrol wob ignited by a spark i from the engine, and the flames quickly spread . to the nacelle. _ TLo pupil got- out of the machine without suffering any harm Several members oT'the company's staff promptly ran to. the burning 'plane with a fire extinguisher. They, saved the engine, hut the 'plane "itself was destroyed.
