ELECTION FIXED FOB ; OCTOBER 10. ■ By Association New Plymouth, September 27. The writ, for the Taranaki by-election, was received' to-day. Nominations of candidates "closo on September 30, and the poll is fixed for October 10. Tho only candidates now in the field sua -Mr;--J S. Connett, chairman of ilia County Council, the selected National candidate, and Mr. Sydney Smith, son. of tho late Mr. E.. M...Smith, ex-mem-ber- for Taranakir'-who stands as. ai Democrat and is backed by the local Labour organisations. Mr ; P. Fit*herbert, who announced- his Candida* tare on behalf of Labour, has t*j-tircd and become-Mr. Smith's chairman of committees.
