GOVERNMENT MAKING INQUIRIES
The statement reported to'have been made by the American Food Controller, Mr. Hoover, has attracted a , .good deal of attention among the people interested in the maintenance of the New Zealand export trade. ■ Tho Minister in Charge of Imperial Supplies, tho Hon. D. H. Guthrie, lias also been giving the matter attention, and yesterday he made a statement &s to what lie is doing about it. "T am still of opinion," said Mr. Guthrie, "that.Mr. Hoover's reported statement is not the ' last worn that has to be said about the subject. I have communicated with the High Commissioner asking him to inform the New Zealand Government what foundation .tliere is for the statement cabled through the Press news service from America, and as. soon as any definite, information reaches mo I , will atonco make it public, with a view to giving the fullest information to the producers, who will no doubt be deeply interested in it." .
