BILLIARDS
GRVSTALATE'CUP CONTEST.
■The. semi-finals of the Crystalate Cup contest were disposed of last night at Alcock'.s rooms, when Congrlon, of Masterton, the present cup holder, defeated Mead, of Petone, and Key, Wellington; defeated Brice, Petone. Congdon's win was not unexpected, ■as besides being a very able player, he is also somewhat matured in tournament play. Still, Mead played quite good billiards, and with more confidence will prove an exceedingly difficult op, ponent; Tho test between Key and Brico .was vory even and interesting. The winner is an able general, whose tactics in safety play are of educational value. In this game Brice had rather a tendency to open up the-play for his opponent,' so letting him in to advantage on several occasions. The best breaks in the evening were: Congdon. 69. 44, SO. 94. SI ; Mead, 24; Brico, 43: Key. 22, 22, 20. To-night at 8 o'clock the final will be played between Congdon, C'ommercinfa»d Farmers' Club. Masterton, and Key,' Working Men's Club, AVellington.
