BILLIARDS
THE CRYSTALATE CHAMPIONSHIP The second round of the crvstalnte championship tournament was commenced on Friday, the first game being between Unit, (if Trentliam Camp, and Mead-of tiic'Petonc Working Men's Club. ' Unit did not show his usual form, owing principally to doing heavy exercises at the cam]). Head was in Rood form, and had a fair amount of • luck with the run of .the halls, and ■reached his .TO points when Knit's scoro stood at 257. The second game, hotwen C'ongdon, of Masterton, and Hamilton. « the Federal Chil> ; was very interesting, Congdon giving a splendid exhibition of all-round billiards. His top of the table work and losing hazards were particularly tine. Hamilton did not appear to settle down to his game until the last stages were reached, when it was too late. Congdon. eventually ran to his 300 points when Hamilton.' was 140. The host breaks, were: Congdon, 46', 44, !12, 40; Hamilton, 19, 10, L 5, 12; Mead. 33. 2-1, L>2, 2.1. On.Saturday evening the first game was between JUriue, of T'etoue "ft'.M. Club, and Duiilop, of the Wellington Federal Club. Play, was very" patchy at the beginning, neither player sho.ving to advantage. Then Brico at length settled down to his game, and got about 100 in the lead, the scores at this stage standing at 290 to 191 in favour of Brice. It appeared hopeless for Dunlop. but in quick succession he put together breaks of 2S, 27, 37, and a few smaller ones, which put him in the lead and only wanting live points to his opponent's seven. He played what appeared to be a. safety, but from a most difficult angle Brice' brought off a beautiful cushion cannon, and ran to his 300 points amidst great excitement. The second game, between Key, of the W.M. Club, and Uennismi. of tho G.P.0., was somewhat mediocre, neither player showed his previous good i'onn. Key scored his HIJO points when Dennison was only 15S. Tho best breaks in the evening's play were:—Dunlop, .37, 27, 28. 28, .'.-1; Bricp, 25, 20, 17, 16; Key, 27, 26, i'U, 17, 17.
