LIFE STORY OF THE SOUL,
"The Life Story of tfie Soul" was. the subject of an interesting and instructive lecture delivered last evening by Mr. J. Ross Thomson, general sec : rotary of the New Zealand section ot the Theosophionl Society.' About three hundred were present. Mr. W. S. Short, presided. Mr. Thomson explained that man hnd many bodios, not one. Tho object of life was evolution (reincarnation) till perfection was reached. Man clearly could » not be man's body, as was commonly believed. Man, the higher 'self, garnered the result of each ircarnntion, and s turned them into character* for tho next Me. Each soul was a figment of God, and must eventually attain perfection, however much progress might be delayed through solf-indulgence in the attractions of tho senses. Earthly pilgrimage was but a day at school, and the experiences of theso "days" made up the lifo story oif tho soul. The soul must light for freedom—agairet domination by the body and by the mind, for intellectual indulgence might develop, quite as surely into slavery of the soul as imlulgenco in the desires of the physical nature. Tho lifestory of tho soul did not begin with physical birth, but with the reaching of self-consciousness by a higher animal. It.incftrnated many, many times, had to have substantially all the experienco tho world could offer, grew emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually till the goal of human perfection was attainad. Mrs. Martin rendered two songs acceptably.
