VICTORIA COLLEGE

PROPOSED BUILDING EXTENSIONS/ •There is need for more room for the accommodation off classes at Victoria College, and the need will be acceiv tuated, when tho School of tonomica comes to be established. ' The Victoria College Council recently delegated to a committee- the task_or preparing a report as to the building programme that would have to be considered. A draft scheme was submitted by this committee last night. The suggestion was for extensions at both the north and the south end of the college huildincr, at an approximate cost of £20.000. Tho scheme- had been prepared by Messrs. W. H. Morton and AV. Ferguson. • The- first proposal made a-t the meeting was that the scheme h\ forwarded to the Government ffor consideration. Sir Robert Stout said that the Government would probably not consider favourably such a big scheme, especially at a time when building costs were so high Hβ suggested that there should be an appeal made to the public for assistance. Reference was made also to tlie possibility of drawing from the funds of some'cJf the endowments, notably m Taranaki, at present withheld Ifrom the college. . . The decision of the council was that the committee be empowered to have more detailed plans prepared before referring the matter to the Government.
