DOMINION CONFERENCE TO BE HELD. . At the monthly meeting of the Wellington Hoard hold yesterday tho chairman (Mr. Thomas Forsyth) said Iliac tho present was a- crucial time in the history of the Education Board system which had served the Stato so well, as il medium iii control, and against which there wan a strong element working—an influence that favoured the centralising of all control in the Education Department. That ho did not believe would be a wise step., bull, the boards wished to know whero they were, and ho suggested that it would bo a good idea to convene a conference of education boards, at which • there would be a freer interchange of ideas calculated to bo of mutual benefit. There were anomalies in the Education Act and the regulations which should bo removed, and it would bo beneficial to tho education system if tho boards of the Dominion could come to some agreement as. to uniformity in the treatment of teachers, as to salaries, conditions, etc. Mr. R. M'C&lliiin was sceptical as to the benefits that would accrue, or did awrno from any conference, and quo , - : ed tho continual run of conferences and sheaves of remits passed by the farmers. ■ Tho chairman replied that it was largely owiiig to their conferences that the farmers of New Zealand were in so enviable position to-day. Fiually, it was decided that a conference bo convened for November next, that all boards be communicated with at once, and asked to forward-re-mits for consideration. The executive of the board was. appointed a'coinnjittee .to convene the conference and fix its" date, etc.
