SWIMMING CARNIVAL

TO ASSIST ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL. As was announced at a specially convened meeting some little time ago, the Wellington Football 'Association placed before its members its financial position, which disclosed a not very healthy condition. Tlie game itself has made' most rapid strides, but the over' increasing expenditure to maintain grounds and pay ground fees has been a heavy strain upon the exchequer. Various money-raising schemos have been suggested, and apart from the "direct appeal" the association is going to hold a swimming carnival at the Tepid Baths. Tasman Street, this evening, at 8 o'clock. The Tepid Baths have been placed at the disposal of the association, and it is expected that the display and competitions will bo particularly interesting. Besides the ordinary swimming events there will be water polo and comic events, as well as relay races for the schools. "Con" We.lson, of Auckland, the New Zealand long-distance champion, and E. Pa.ter.son, 100 yards record holder of New Zealand, will be amongst the competitors. All "Soccer" enthusiasts are asked to roll up,and cheer on to victory those competitors and committees who arc working to save the Football Association from pecuniary difficulties.
